Where to get funding to establish a microschool is a pretty popular topic in our discussions. I personally believe it can be completely bootstrapped. Say your first year you start with only ten students, each paying $4,000 annual tuition. They’ll also pay for their own computers and most of the supplies. It’s fairly easy to rent space from a church for no more than $1,000 per month, so you could be easily left with around $30,000 per year in instructor/director salary. In a school that size, that’s one person, who happens to be you. You won’t have a really lush lifestyle during year 1 under these assumptions, but you can survive and grow your student base as you get your bearings. What other considerations are y’all factoring in?
